Compassion and Reason Make for Balanced Decisions in Business
This morning I was reflecting on the lives of two people who had a profound impact on me when I was much younger. Their influence continues today in the way I think about making effective decisions in business.
Both of those people had the combination of two wonderful attributes, namely high intellectual capacity and deep compassion. These attributes and the behaviors that flow from them are wonderful to witness.
In business, the art and the discipline of trying to exercise these two attributes in my own limited way seems to me to be the balance to strive for. Make the best-balanced decision, having engaged in rigorous thought, combined with and informed by taking into consideration its impact on others.
